What is Constipation

A decrease in the frequency, size, consistency and  care of bowel movement and the complaints depend upon the individual perception. Medically diagnosis may be made if the patient has less than three bowel movements in a week or has to strain excessively at defecation.

Or in general term Inadequate defecation or dissatisfaction after passing the stool. Patient suffering from constipation never feels satisfied after evacuation.

Causes of Constipation:

• Poor lifestyle (low dietary fibre, inadequate water intake, inadequate exercise, poor bowel habit, irregular sleeping habit, irregular timing of food intake )

• Hypothyroidism and chronic renal failure

• Adverse effect of some drugs

• Structural abnormalities

• Neurological lesions

• Anxiety and depression

Symptoms of constipation:

• Hard stool

• Not passing stool daily

• Many times in a day going for passing stool but dissatisfied

• Fullness in abdomen i.e. patient feels like his abdomen is filled with air many time people complaints that their abdomen is filled with gas

• Even after straining the stool did not come out
